Hospice volunteers are members of the Hospice team and the cornerstone of hospice services. Hospice volunteers are trained to meet the needs of patients, family members and caregivers. Hospice volunteers often connect with patients on a deep, personal level, which allows the Hospice El Paso team to gain valuable insights regarding the overall impact of the level of comfort and care that is provided. Although Hospice Volunteers do not provide hands-on care, invaluable assistance includes:
Running errands
Pet Walking
Reading and writing letters
Playing games
Participating in pet therapy
Scrapbooking or other crafts
Emotional support (i.e., spiritual prayer calls)
Caregiver relief for up to four hours to allow a caregiver personal time away from the home
Bedside vigil volunteers to provide presence for patients in their final days or hours
Soothing activities such as musical, art or pet therapy
Veteran to Veteran support through, "We Honor Veterans Program."
Pet therapy for patients and family
Heart of Hospice Crafters create memory bears, heart pillows, head & neck pillows, foley covers, lap blankets, hand carrots. . .all focused on improving patient’s quality of life.
